Styx River Resort

The Styx River RV Resort in Alabama was a two day stopping off point conveniently located near I-10. A chance to do some hiking around, laundry, read, check the oil, kick the tires, etc. Be sure to click on the highlighted links to review the history of my discovery of Styx River Water World.

Styx River Resort RC Race Track

On one of my usual "curiosity adventure" hikes while straying off the beaten path, I came across some really unusual bigger than life fiberglass farm animals, an ice cream cone, and an abandoned building long forgotten in the woods. After speaking with a worker at the campground, I found out this was once Styx River Water World.                                                     Watch YouTube video: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CCQQtwIwAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D03vO2r1muJk&ei=6L1sUN3IIqrs2QWk-IGwAw&usg=AFQjCNE9OXNDkEoIlkyo8YqMhJ_xghI46w&sig2=hQ74pUOQ8THaRA67TdJW3g

Photographer Dean Jeffrey took this photo in 2002 when he was driving by Styx River Water World in Alabama. Even then, not much was left of the once sprawling park – which Jeffrey reckons was operational between 1977 and 1993. Not much left except for knocked-over fiberglass statues.
How can you resist the curiosity of finding out where the road takes you into history?
